“In a celebration of creativity and cultural enrichment, the Museums Commission, Ministry of Culture, Saudi Arabia proudly presents the groundbreaking exhibition, “In the Night,” at the Saudi Arabia Museum of Contemporary Art (SAMoCA@Jax). This exhibition showcases the transformative power of art in interpreting the domain of the night. Artists from Saudi Arabia and the world, including from France, Morocco, Tunisia, India, Japan, Argentina Pakistan, Croatia, Australia, and the UK, take part in the exhibition with creative artworks shedding light on the mystery of the night and its intricate dimensions.
The night, often a sanctuary for artists and poets, serves as a canvas for imagination, introspection, and observation. “In the Night” invites visitors to experience over thirty local and international artists’ interpretations of the nocturnal landscape, conveyed through a diverse range of mediums including sensory experiences, large canvases, installations, sculptures, and video works. This exhibition not only underscores the rich tapestry of contemporary art but also marks a significant milestone in the cultural landscape of Saudi Arabia. “Artist Nadezda Nikolova has moved to drawing landscapes after having photographed them for so long… Her “Elemental Forms” uses paper masks, brushes and various manipulations via the early photographic collodion process to transfigure the images of a mysterious nature.
She said: “The night is never devoid of a source of light, and within that there’s a sense of safety that we can trust — that we’re not alone.
“It’s a time of dreams and visions, and a time where you can open your aperture and look towards the cosmos and connect to that sense of a larger reality and we’re part of it.” …

“The process of finding the subjects for her imagery comes by processing her emotions and thoughts, usually on walks and during her time spent in nature. “My artmaking is an extension of my daily routine. On one level, the imagery represents my experience as a form in the landscape, registering it through my senses,” she tells us. Throughout her series Elemental Forms, you can see her reckoning with the elements she witnesses on her journeys. Among them is the recurring theme of portals, exposing the stars and stratosphere surrounded by her recurring textural allusions to waves. “These openings, doorways or portals appear after the aftermath of great ruptures like a global pandemic, inviting us to leave behind old paradigms that call us to fearlessly step into the unknown,” she adds…”

“Sacred Encounters presents an exploration into how photography engages with the sacred world, and the ways that photographers experience and express these ideas through portraiture, architecture, landscape and abstraction. The exhibition will feature a select group of California photographers working in a range of processes and in both black and white and color. Participating photographers are Linda Connor, Eduardo Fujii, J. M. Golding, Roman Loranc, Richard Murai, Nadezda Nikolova, Manuello Paganelli and Kenneth Parker.
